Farmers Erin and John, Out Standing in Their Field, Winter 2010

Farmers Erin and John, Out standing in their field.
Winter, 2010

John started his gardening career when he was eight years old and has been gardening ever since. He grew up on a farm in central Minnesota where his family grew almost all of their own food.

He discovered organic gardening in the early 1970s under the leadership of Robert Rodale, the son of J.I. Rodale, one of the movement’s early leaders. He realized that he has always been an organic gardener and eagerly learned more with each passing season. He has been growing gardens to feed his large family for the last 40+ years.

Erin, John’s daughter, has been the main source of inspiration for this enterprise. She has grown up with the family garden being the primary source for the vegetables that her family ate. She helped in the gardens every summer growing up.

As an adult, during the summers of 2008 – 2010, she discovered her own passion for growing things and decided to be a CSA producer. She really helped John see his own dormant desire to do the same thing.
